This book was based on the presentations from an international symposium on heart disease in Down's syndrome in 1992. Contributions from other invited experts were added to make it a comprehensive review of the subject. It considers the genetic, embryologic, anatomical and physiological basis for congenital heart disease, and then goes on through diagnosis, medical and surgical management, including long term follow-up to adulthood. The more theoretical part is fascinating and detailed with lots of references, but is probably a little inaccessible to anyone other than medical professionals. More practical, clinical advice is included, but is not always easy to find. A book for specialists.
