Keypoints immunisation. September 2001 DOWN'S SYNDROME : IMMUNISATION Key Points (based on DSMIG clinical awareness note- J Dennis and D Elliman) Give all vaccines that are part of universal UK schedule: · DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) · Polio · Hib (Haemophilus influenzae Type B) · Meningococcal C · MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) · BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin for tuberculosis). Probably a case to give neonatally rather than at age 12 14 years. Consider following additional vaccines: · Influenza for all · Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine below two years old and then plain polysaccharide vaccine when older · Hepatitis B (need pre and post vaccine determination of immune status as per local schedules. Advice re timing and local schedules available from local paediatrician) There is increased possibility of non-response to immunisation and this should always be borne in mind. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DSMIG (UK) 2001 www.dsmig.org.uk 16.01.02
