Announcing the new DSMIG Jennifer Dennis Research Award
The DSMIG Jennifer Dennis research award has been set up as a tribute to
Dr Jennifer Dennis. Jennifer was not only a principal founding member of the
organisation but remained central to its activities for some 20 years before
standing down from active involvement with the organisation in 2015.
The aim of this award is to encourage and reward research in the area of
healthcare for children with Down syndrome.
The award will be presented every 2 years and consist of a monetary
award of £200 together with free DSMIG membership for one year and the
waiving of registration fees to attend the DSMIG winter scientific symposium.
When considering who will be the recipient of this award, priority will be given
to research that advances the specialist medical management of children with
Down syndrome and/or optimises health outcomes in this group of children.
The award can be used at the discretion of the recipient to further develop
their interest in research and knowledge in relation to care of children with

Applicants should submit an abstract (up to 500 words) detailing their research,
and how this will have an impact on improving the lives of individuals with

The deadline for submissions is 1st September 2018.
Members of the DSMIG executive committee will review submissions and
the authors of the best abstract(s) will be invited to give a 10 minute presentation
at the 2018 Winter DSMIG Symposium. The winner will then be announced at the end
of the meeting.
